SERENDIPITY

In a completely serendipitous way, the start of my Artist-in-Residence (AinR) & Arts Ambassador appointment coincides with the start of a brand new recording.  I released my last recording, titled "Long Haul", in 2021.  I feel like I am long overdue for a new offering of songs.  I released my first recording, Pocket Full of Holes in 2002 and have released a full length album every two to three years until Long Haul.  The fact that it has been four years without an album is new to me.  It will be five years by the time this new record is actually released in 2026.

As part of my role as AinR, I'd like to give an insight into my life as an artist and working musician. If you've ever wondered what touring musicians do when they're not on stage, just follow along and I'll attempt to show you. Granted the daily life of a musician likely depends heavily on their fame.  I suspect the 1% like Taylor Swift, Drake, and The Beebs have very different lives from mine but I'd wager a guess that there are some similarities. Regardless, if you would like a look behind the curtain to see what I do in my creative daily practice, follow along and check back on a regular basis.  My attempt is to post daily. We'll see if I can keep that goal.

Okay, here we go then.  Today I met with Jason Valleau at his home in Calgary and we reviewed some songs we plan on recording later this week. Jason Valleau is one of the most musical people I know and I'm lucky to have him not only as a bass player in my trio but as a really good friend.

The purpose of the rehearsal was to run the songs one last time before taking them into the studio.  This was an opportunity for me to find any last glitches or hiccups in the arrangement, decide on the key, and make sure the lyrics felt finished.
