THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD

I spend a great deal of time driving.  That is the life of a touring musician in Canada.  It's part of the deal.  I left Alberta Showcase in Fort Saskatchewan this morning before it was light.  I watched the sunrise from my vehicle somewhere around Maskwacis, Alberta.

It was an early morning because I had studio time booked for noon in Calgary at Aaron Young's studio.  Myself and Jason Valleau worked through another couple songs. We recorded one of my favourite new songs, "Long Time One Night Stand"

I don't know a lot about recording gear but I do know I like the microphone Aaron has chosen me for this recording session.  It is a Telefunken 255.  It makes me sound silky smooth.

My hope was to get finished on all the bed tracks today but half way through the session I could feel and hear that my voice was tired. I made the decision to call it.  I'll come back once my voice is rested.  Jason and I also realized that we need to workshop the last two songs a little more.  We haven't quite worked out the song and I'm not really at a point where I can perform it confidently.  I got a little lesson from Aaron Young how to chord a section of the song.  I was struggling with figuring out what chords to play once we modulated to a new key.

It was a smart decision to leave it for another day.  We high fived and called it a day.
