WOOD BUFFALO ARTS COUNCIL - FORT MCMURRAY
One of my biggest hurdles with my Alberta Artist-in-Residence project is making contact with the community and making sure that people know about the songwriting workshops, that I’ll be facilitating in their communities. To help me with these logistics, I’m attempting to partner with arts organizations around the province. The biggest arts organization in the northern s Alberta is probably the Arts Council of Wood Buffalo.

According to their website, (check it out here) the council offers a variety of services and events that build the capacity of local artist to compete and thrive, create collaborations between artists, arts, organizations, nonprofits, and industry, all while providing opportunities for the community to express itself through the arts.
As I stated in my original project description, if I am to be an art ambassador for Alberta, I need to visit all regions of the province. One of the places I had in my description is Fort Chipewyan, right up in the NE corner of the province.
This morning, I had a zoom meeting with two people from the arts council of Wood Buffalo - Jenna Fewer the program manager, and Emma Carter, the engagement manager.

I’m looking forward to working with them and going up north to work in communities. I’ve never been to before and hearing the stories of everyday Albertans from the North. Stay tuned for dates.
