EMILY TRIGGS

Last night The Woodshed (myself and Calgary songster T. Buckley) helped our pal Emily Triggs release her latest album The Great Escape.

The show was at the beloved Calgary venue The Ironwood. My favourite venue in the province, hands down.

For Emily, tonight was the final phase of a cycle most artists follow. It’s the Gather/Create/Share cycle.

The first phase of the cycle is the gathering stage. This is where we are collecting stories, ideas, and bits and pieces, the same way a bird collects straw, mud, twigs, bale twine, feathers, and any other scraps to build a nest.

The second phase is the crafting stage. This is where we take our bits and pieces - I like to call them nuggets - and create songs from them.

The third stage is the sharing stage. In this stage we send our songs out into the world to anyone who will listen. We create vinyl, and CDs and put our new songs on streaming platforms and sing them at an album release show. We ride this last phase as we travel around presenting this new body of work.

Eventually that body of work reaches its shelf life. At that point we begin to gather new nuggets and start the cycle all over again.
